Same River Twice
A man can’t step in the same river twice
Daddy used to spend his Sundays fishing
He was restless as a rainbow trout
When I was younger he would drag me with him
“C’mon, boy, let’s get out of the house”
And he’d clue me in what life was all about
He said
A man can’t step in the same river twice
It took me a long time to finally understand
How a man can’t step in the same river twice
For it ain’t the same river, and he ain’t the same man
Mama never understood what drew him
To go wadin’ in that icy Yellowstone
But she figured she could save my soul from ruin
So some days she’d make him go alone
And I was itching in my Sunday clothes
(when I heard)
A man can’t step in the same river twice
It took me a long time to finally understand
How a man can’t step in the same river twice
For it ain’t the same river, and he ain’t the same man
One day dad caught religion on the water
Got baptized and his sins were washed away
Mama stood there on the bank, shedding tears and giving thanks
For years she had been praying for a change
Everything made sense to me that day
A man can’t step in the same river twice
It took me a long time to finally understand
How a man can’t step in the same river twice
For it ain’t the same river, and he ain’t the same man

Mike,
Real nice feel to the track, music relaxed, tempo good, almost sounds bluegrass.
Not quite sure if the hook is explained fully, I understand the concept, but maybe give a concrete example of the man changed.
Just my 2 cents worth, good luck, Bob
