I wrote this song after watching "Walk the Line". Hadn't known much of Johnny Cash before the movie, so afterwards I did a lot of research on him. This song is the product of that research and also the way I feel about myself.
Just whatever you feel. I will be releasing this on my next CD, I won't be making changes to the production or anything, but feedback is always good.
I think the track will do well. Great build, sung with understanding. I would say the Cash reference brings an added dimension to the majority of listeners (if not all listeners over 30). But for those who don’t catch it, the “June” can definitely stand for warmth, summer, leisure, beaches - colors that match the rest of the female sides of the verses, requiring no attachment to June Carter. “Johnny” isn’t as universal, but can be the generic guy because of the generic name. Everyone knows a johnny who holds the characteristics described in the song at least part of the time, or we’re a guy who feels like Johnny part of the time.
I look forward to seeing your career advance, Anthony. God bless.

Matt,
What you said above is a really great point, and something I would have never thought about. It is very true. Those who don’t get the exact reference of Johnny and June, could take something else out of reference. No doubt it does add a nice dimension to the song, and I am glad it is in there.

Verse 1
Well, I'm a little more country
You're a big city girl
I'd rather stay home
You wanna travel the world I'm more like my father You're just like your maw
I'm more the outcast
You're the one who belongs
Chorus
Well, I'm a little more rebel But you're no fool
I'm a black suit outlaw You're dressed light blue Oh, I’m just like midnight While you’re high noon
Oh, I'm a little more Johnny You're a little more June
Verse 2
So, I'm a little more whiskey You're a little more wine
I lose my patience
But, you get better with time
So, when I'm cold like November You're warm like spring
When I lose my temper
You're as calm as a breeze
Chorus
Well, I'm a little more rebel
But you're no fool
I'm a black suit outlaw
You're dressed light blue
Oh, I'm just like midnight
While you're high noon
I'm a little more Johnny
You're a little more June
You’re a little more June Instrumental
Verse 3
Well I'm a little more sinner You're a little more saint
I'm more the runner
You're the one who will stay Come Hell or high water
Your faith stays the same
Mine’s just more shaky
But we still find a way
End Chorus
Though I'm a little more rebel And you're no fool
I'm a black suit outlaw
You’re dressed light blue
And even though I'm midnight While you're high noon
We fell in love like Johnny and June I'm a little more Johnny
You're a little more June
You’re a little more June

Very cool song for sure! I really like the I’m a little more (blank) and you’re a little more (blank) concept to this song. They are great contrasts that really need no explanation to what you mean below the surface.
The Johnny and June comparison also gives a really nice punch. My only thought is that it would be great to hear that stand out bit more. It is such a powerful reference that many will get it. Although, by making it such an important line, you do run the risk of those who don’t know the story of Johnny and June not getting the reference, so it’s a trade off.
Overall, I really like this song a lot and to me it is well crafted. I am curious what some of the others think about it!
