Break up song set in Northern Calif.
Thanks Mitch,
Kinda funny because Guy Clark and John Prine are my idols. And my demo guy (Tim Thompson) said “I’m gonna give you some Eagles type harmonies when he sent me the song. You are quite observant sir !!!
Cheers,
Joe

This is my kind of my music right here. I liked everything about this song, awesome hook (both lyrically and melodically) and felt I like you did a great job bringing the listener into the middle of the story, which is always a challenge. What else is very cool about this tune is it could be a modern song or a song from the 70’s coming out of that California country scene. It has a timeless sounding sensibility about it. Hats off to you on this one.

Thanks Thomas,
Glad the story resonated with you.
My demo guys “Killed it” with the Mando, Fiddle and Flat picking. They are a father and son duo up in Henderson just north of Nashville. Incredible musicians. Im lucky to call them my friends.
Tim and Myles Thompson. Check Youtube. They have some really cool instrumental work there.
Cheers,
Joe

So lyrically and musically rich, Joe! And even though it’s a break up song, I don’t not sad - love that - tricky to pull off!

Thanks Alexis.
Yes, my demo guys on this are super talented.
Makes average writing sound sooo much better… lol.
I was luck enough to get this signed with a Publicist
in Nashville but no cut yet. It’s a tough game as you know. !!! Thanks for checking in Alexis.

Heartbreak Rain (Joe Ryan 3/29/2013) / (904) 962-1215 jryan@allegiancestaffing.com
V
A long silver train out of Red Hills station
Churned it's way down a tree lined track
The prettiest girl in Northern California
I had a feeling you were never coming back
V
Said that you needed a change of scenery
You heard a voice from Denver call
Bought a one way ticket to the Rocky Mountains
And left me here to take the fall
C
Midnight prayers and a shot of cheap whiskey
That's my best chance to loose this pain
California ain't lookin near as pretty
Through the mist of a heartbreak rain
Through the mist of a heartbreak rain
V
You never did care for this small town anyway
You wore the eyes of the ramblin kind
An old back pack and worn out duffle
With wilder dreams running through your mind
V
Now the lights of the big city call you
Evening comes and it's time to play
Hope you find what you left in search of
A bigger stage and a brighter day
C
Midnight prayers and another shot of whiskey
That's my only chance to loose this pain
California ain't lookin near as pretty
Through the mist of a heartbreak rain
Through the mist of a heartbreak rain
(Inst. )
(Out Ch)
Midnight prayers and a bottle of wiskey
Guess I'm not ready to loose this pain
No California ain't lookin near as pretty
Through the mist of a heartbreak rain
Through the mist of a hearbreak rain

Nice stuff. More progressive bluegrass, like Steep Canyon Rangers. The harmony work is very Eagles. The flow of the lyrics have a bit of Guy Clark to them.
