Jacob,

Nice performance. First….Your title. Song 55. I have no idea what to expect. Retired?? Having a Grand Slam at Denny’s?? Nothing, about the title, peaks my interest.

The song should play well at coffee shops. However, I wasn’t wowed by the many generic words and phrases. Lots of mentions of sun and skies, etc.

I recommend you…try to give us something new. Too many songs talk of sun, skies, fill my eyes. Don’t give us a list of clichés…. WOW us with something we haven’t heard before!!!

I really appreciate the versatility of this song, Jacob. Solo, it makes sense and can carry itself. But I can hear it in my head with a full band, too. Stripped down drums, soft electric for emphasis, and a bass to really add that travelin’ feel. Good stuff, man.

Hi Jacob.  First I would like to tell you that the music is nice…carries the song well.  It is a good easy listening melody that can, if you let it, take you somewhere.  I am not sure as one other person mentioned about the title.  Song 55, not sure where or how it relates.  Does however, paint pictures for me but maybe a little too much overuse of cliches.

Nice chill song I really like it. I can see myself listening to it often especially driving in the car open road, windows down.

I enjoy the harmonica very much. I am intrigued by the title. Would you be interested in sharing what it’s about?

Hey Mackenzie. Thanks for listening. Also, thank you for asking a question and not “criticizing what you can’t understand” like Charlie up there…haha. So I wanted this to be a sort of love song to The West. I thought it would be cool to use the typical cliches but in a different context (being about The West instead of a lover). It is named Song 55 because it was the 55th entry on my Garageband. I decided to keep calling it that because it gives it that “just another song” feel and it is pleasantly unassuming.

Jacob, I love the laid back sound of this song enough that I actually listened to it more than once. I thought it sounded like John Prine meets Chris Christopherson. I was not bothered by the cliches at all and believe that your use of them was masterful. They fit right in with the music to make the song familiar and comfortable like an old pair of shoes. Certain aspiring writers are so critical and so analytical that they can neither appreciate another’s writing nor write anything of their own. No problem with the song title except that a few hundred songs all named in that fashion might be hard to navigate.
