Southern Life is a FUN Song that I wrote about our "Southern Ways". When Traveling it amazes me how our Southern Ways are viewed by others. We were raised differently and our priorities are a bit different but we are generally just misunderstood!
Hey Richard Kirk,
Thank you for the feedback, I always appreciate that more than you know! Several points:
I am far from a know it all and always listen to advice, The reason I do is because I travel from Shreveport to Nashville often and like networking!
When I write a song, I usually take longer than most people because I will write lyrics, Melody and mix over and over. When I think a work tape is good, I run it thru 2 mentors of mine in Nashville for their advice and they tell me the “Good, Bad & ugly” lol. Then I complete the mix.
I ran a google search on “Southern Ways & Southern Life” to see which one had more or less searches etc..Thus “Southern Life” it was actually called “Southern Ways” originally.
This Subject HAS been beat to death, but I wrote it for a specific artist, needless to say he passed on it but in the same week I had a Publisher say he wants this song for a Nashville artist & another manger want it for a Texas Red dirt artist!
Believe it or not this song was actually planned with the few flaws it has and even mentioned by my 2 review panels. I had plans to tweak it but with 2 artist interested I will leave it as it is!
I appreciate your honest review & welcome any more comments you have! I only have a few of my songs on here. I have written for several years and studied music etc.. but I learn something everyday! Thank you!

(VERSE)
SOUTHERN LIFE IS MORE LAID BACK AND SLOW,
LIFE DOWN HERE IS PRETTY GOOD.
BUT FOR SOME REASON OUR SOUTHERN WAYS ARE MISUNDERSTOOD
WE DON'T WEAR OUR FEELINGS ON OUR SLEEVE
BUT HERE ARE A FEW THINGS WE DO BELIEVE
(CHORUS)
WE LIVE PRETTY SIMPLE, TALK A LITTLE SLOW
HELP A BROTHER OUT, THAT'S HOW WE ROLL
WE WERE RAISED TO STAND OUR GROUND
PROTECT WHAT'S OURS AND NOT BACK DOWN
RATHER HAVE A GOOD TIME AND DRINK A MILLER LITE
BUT DON'T GET ME WRONG, IF YOU STEP ON A DOGS TAIL HE’S LIABLE TO BITE
(VERSE)
WE WORK REAL HARD AND WEEKENDS ARE FOR PLAY
IF WE HAVE OUR SHARE OF BEER AND WINE
WE WILL STAY AT THE LAKE ALL DAY AND NIGHT
GOD, FAMILY AND COUNTRY IS WHAT MATTERS TO US
RESPECT OUR WOMEN, HONOR OUR TROOPS, LOVE OUR FLAG
(VERSE)
WE’RE PROUD OF OUR SOUTHERN LAND
NOT RELYING ON THE GOVERNMENT’S HAND
OH YEAH, SOME THINGS YOU JUST DON’T DO
LIKE MISS A GAME BETWEEN A&M AND LSU
OR BE BUSY ON THE DAY THE COWBOYS PLAY THE SAINTS
WE LIVE PRETTY SIMPLE, TALK A LITTLE SLOW
HELP A BROTHER OUT, THAT'S HOW WE ROLL …… THAT’S RIGHT

Hey Roger. Some really descriptive lines here, a subject that’s been done many times, so it’s gonna be kind of hard to break through. But I don’t think that well ever completely runs dry. I like what you’re saying overall, but I’d like to hear the title in the Chorus someplace, probably at the end.. That would give it more punch and unity. Plus your rhyme schemes from one verse to the next are not as consistent as they could be. But you certainly know how to paint pictures and that is a real plus. Keep writing!
