About This Song

This song started with the intrigue of the first couple of lines and the stories that I have heard in our small town of the amount of people that "came for a year but stayed for thirty".

Feedback Requested

Alternative ways to produce the track.
Does the story make sense?

I like the direction you are going with the story on this.
I would actually make the production sound like outlaw country/americana (waylon/willie sound)...i think that vibe would fit the lyrics…Nice!!

Just Passing Through (This Little...

Written by Brett Watchorn

I said I’m just passing through
That was two years ago
I told my wife, “Let’s stay awhile”
She said, “I want to go”
We had broken down in this little town
As we drove across the border
We passed the perfect home with a garden gnome
But there was no way we could afford her

Bill, the town mechanic smiled
He must’ve seen the question in my eyes
When I went to collect my beat up truck
He gave me his advice…

Chorus 1
This little town… it gets into your skin
It won’t let you down… if you let it in
Don’t give your money to Kenny
And keep your eyes off Jenny
But better friends you won’t find
In this little town… you won’t lose your mind

I said I’m just passing through
That was ten years ago
My wife and I made the best of life
and we mortgaged our new home

I found a pub, we joined some clubs
and we had a son and daughter
And all the folks in this little town
Stuck around through hell or high water

Chorus 2:
This little town… it gets into your skin
It won’t let you down… if you let it in
Go to church on Sunday
Love your work on Monday
And you’ll find it hard to frown
In this little town… we won’t let you drown

I said I’m just passing through
That was thirty years ago
We’ve held on to friends to the bitter end
But we have to sell our home

All the shops are closing
As there’s no more jobs to find
As I said goodbye to Robert Street
I realised Bill was right

Chorus 3:
This little town… it got into my skin
It never let me down… When I let it in
I lost my money to Kenny
Had to run from Jenny
But better friends I’d never find
In this little town… I didn’t lose my mind
I went to church on Sunday
Loved my work on Monday
And I never wore a frown
In this little town… This little town
