About This Song

My sister said to me , "I want to go home...wherever that is." Great song idea so I wrote this song. One fan said it really comforted him. He listened to it repeatedly over days when he was depressed.

Hi, Carla- thanks for sharing your song with us!  Yes, that IS a strong song idea- good job picking up on it.  I like that you have some movement to the song, some energy.  The recording makes it hard to hear the lyrics… could use more “showing” and less “telling” in the lyrics.  More like “pies and cakes, etc.”

Lyrics do not coming easily for me at all.  It seems there is always something not quite perfect with them. I’m afraid my songs are general ideas in some ways and not entirely polished.  I hope I improve with practice.  Thanks for your feedback Brent.  I appreciate your suggestions.

Hey Carla, nice song! Is it you singing? Beautiful voice, reminds me to Dido. The vocals could be more in the upfront. I also like the lyric, it’s simple, but it makes me feel something. However instead of the line ‘home is where the heart is’ I would look for something more original. Is it also made with ‘Band in a Box’? Sounds great!

Yes, Frank.  It’s me singing and thanks for the compliment. It wasn’t made with BIAB. Bobby Lalonde made the demo for me and I believe he played all the instruments himself. He’s very talented.

I Want To Go Home

Written by Carla Dancey

I Want to Go Home

Home is where the heart is. (3X) I want to go home.

I want to go home if I knew where that was
Somewhere to belong where I know that I’m loved
People who care. I want to go home.
Breaking up again, I’m way too old.
I need to find a place out of the cold
And new company. New Company.

When I find the place I’m missing, Smiling faces, hugs and kissing;
I’ll know that I’m home. I’ll know that I’m home.

I want to go home if I knew the address
Somewhere my life’s not a great big mess.
Safe from this storm. I want to go home.
When my mother was alive
I would go visit, just arrive.
A warm cup of tea and I’d feel right at home.

Heaven seems like such a sweet dream, Just like pies and cakes and ice cream
But so far away. It’s so far away.

So point your hand to show me how to.
I’ll pack a suitcase and a lunch too.
I’ll take the next train. A bus or a plane.
I want to go home. I just want to go home.

Home is where the heart is. (3X ) I want to go home.

When I find the place I’m missing, Smiling faces, hugs and kissing;
I’ll know that I’m home. I’ll know that I’m home.
I want to go home. I just want to go h-o-m-e.
