About This Song

About leaving home and not liking what you see.

Lyrics, overall mix of the song. I know it's still rough - I've been learning the mixing and mastering process.

Hi Ted, I love the groove of your song, I wanted to freak out a bit right away. I think the lyric goes well with the music. In some parts it sounds a bit rushed. The mix, especially the guitar, sounds canned. I don’t know how you recorded the guitar, it sounds like the micro was in the room and not in front of the speaker. I would try to get a more dry, direct sound, also for the drums.

Thank you Frank!  I appreciate your response.  I recorded the guitar direct and I just tweaked the crap out of it with effects, etc.  I decided to use a Talk box effect on the leads that perhaps I could do without.  The drums were midi programmed and I realize now that I left them right on the beat and should humanize them a bit and take some effect off as well.
Again, thanks so much!

Downtown (Out of the Woods)

Written by Ted Mendell

I went downtown. Out where the streets are cold and rough.
I went downtown. Out where the people have had enough.
Where every shadow screams out in all its misery,
Come save me. Come save me Lord this ain't no place for me.

And they’ll tell you that it’s all the same.
Ain't no use tryin’ hard to wish for better days.
Ain't nothin’ ever gonna change. Around this town.

I went downtown lookin’ for a free ride out of the woods.
But times are hard and the people you meet ain't up, to no good.
Way down here you’ll hear a million stories ‘most every night.
Of how one man went and took another man’s life, just a cruel toss of the dice.

It’s got nothin’ to do with faith.
Don’t make no matter how hard people pray.
Ain't nobody gonna get saved. Around this town.

Gone and done things gonna haunt you forever.
Shoulda known better, now you better get back to the woods.
Tried real hard but it just didn’t matter.
Shoulda known better, now you better get back to the woods.

Ain't never gonna leave these sheltering woods again.
You’ll never find me face down in the gutter like a fool tryin’ to pretend.
There ain't no denyin’ that those hard stone walls, left a cruel mark on my life.
Ain't no mystery, nobody gotta tell me, I can tell by the look in their eyes.

And I tell them that they’d look the same.
Wouldn’t make a difference if the names were changed.
Ain't nobody playin’ games. Around this town. Around this town.

Nobody ever gets a free ride outta the woods.
Nobody ever gets a free ride outta the woods.
Ain't nobody gets a free ride outta the woods.
Ain't nobody gets a free ride outta the woods. Etc.
