Work tape for a little country-style tune about a couple of vintage film buffs...
This is another of those songs where I worry that some of the references might be a little obscure to contemporary audiences. And because the story between the two people is more implied than stated, I wonder how many people (like my wife, for example) feel the song isn't finished yet?
Oh, I’m pretty ugly too, just in a different sort of way.
Thanks for the feedback, Tommy. The Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre references are the ones I worry most about—character actors as opposed to leads. But I’m glad somebody else remembers them. Those guys did nice work.

She got legs like Ginger Rogers
She got a butt just like Marilyn Monroe
And when she laughs she's Rita Hayworth
But when she smiles it's Jean Harlowe
I seen her sitting 'cross the diner
Ruby lipstick in her hand
She was scribbling something on a paper place mat
In a language I don't understand
She said Take me to the movies
She said Mister, can you take me to a picture show?
Buy me a Technicolor romance
Ply me with popcorn and a Coke
Now me, I look a lot like Peter Lorre
I stumble 'round on little Jimmy Cagney legs
But I got abs like Sydney Greenstreet
From all these late night ham and eggs
She say You be Bogart, I'll be Bergman
She say You be Burton, I'll be Liz
She say Let's pretend we don't have to depend on the kindness of strangers
Until the house lights come up again
And she had legs like Ginger Rogers
She had that butt just like Marilyn Monroe
Sometimes she laughed like Rita Hayworth
Sometimes she cried like Miss Garbo

Well, I got all the references, but I am older (not AS old as I would have seen those actors and actresses as their movies came out haha, 50)... but I think those names are timeless. Can’t say I even watch those movies, but I am for sure aware of them. Others would need to say as well though, to see if everyone is getting it!
I got a good chuckle out of the verse describing “yourself” too (the character singing the song, not saying it necessarily is a good description for you!)
