A relationship isn't always as it appears on the surface. Upbeat. Humour. Male or Female singer. Past/present.

Hey Sonya! I like the concept… that no relationship is a fairy tale. I was a little confused about the “you” in “if you’da been the fly on…”... Is this character talking to her partner? Because then in the Chorus it says “you and me”? So the concept seems like she’s trying to convince her own partner that other relationships aren’t always what they seem either and everyone isn’t perfect?

Hey Jayne
Thanks so much for your feedback again. It is always very much appreciated.
The concept that you thought you saw was correct. We look at others relationships and think ours is nothing like that - what we don’t know is what goes on behind closed doors.
I am actually working on a we-write at the moment to try and make it more understandable. I think the “no relationship is a fairy tale” concept will stay though.
Look forward to showing you all the edited version.
Cheers

If you'da been the fly on the wall
You'da seen underneath it all
Not the Prince Charming like we all thought
But a lil green frog with all his warts
If you'da been a fly on the wall
You'da seen he was busy no time to call
Workin' late missin' dinner dates
Boozin' up with his crazy mates
You'd see that it's no fairytale at all
If you could be a fly on the wall
They work hard to stay close together
But it ain't always easy weather
They love each other and that's the key
That's the way it is with you and me
If you'da been the fly on the wall
You'da seen she's no bell 'o the ball
No flawless beauty at the suns first light
Cinders gets messed up during the night
If you'da been a fly on the wall
You'da seen she's no fancy cook at all
She gets moody and cries at nothin'
When she's mad she'll start slammin' somethin'
CHORUS (Repeat)
Despite how perfect it all may seem
What's underneath ain't always a dream
CHORUS (Repeat)

Hey, Sonya! I like the title- it makes me want to hear what the song is about. I like the general idea of “hey, those perfect couples aren’t really perfect” and I REALLY like how, instead of saying “they’re fake and really messed up” you say “they’re not perfect, and they have to work hard at making love work… but they do it.”
I think that positive turn really helps the lyric.
Now, in the first verse, the guy sounds like the bad guy of the song. Then I’m thinking the song is about how “Mr. Perfect” is really a jerk. Then the lyric has to reel me back into what the song is really about.
I think if you can set the true tone earlier… say something about how the COUPLE looks perfect, but they aren’t… maybe that could help.
Just a quick thought. Hope it helps!
