About This Song

I wrote this song about the journey of change. Me and my family are adopting soon which is an anxious yet exciting time. We have dealt with infertility from day one but we are very blessed to have our own daughter, Harper, who is now 5, but with continued problems that led to disappointment and grief, God led us down this unfamiliar path of adoption as way for us to move forward and grow our family. "Aged like a fine wine...I've found reason from where I've been" refers to the journey of life and learning as we find our purpose and place in this life. The line "Soul been saved" was our motto for our adoption as we embrace the opportunity to save a child and give it new life and love, but the song goes on to say "by grace, my soul been saved. I"m a sinner but that's not my name", this is reminder that, as orphans once ourselves, we are saved by God the father and his amazing grace.

Hey, David!  Good to see you back on Frettie- I see it’s been a while.  Cool song!  Now, it’s more singer/songwriter country than top 40 country (and I don’t mean that as a bad thing). It’s just lacking the clarity that a lot of mainstream country needs, lyrically.

I dig the vibe/recording/voice/idea of the song.  I’m the adoptive father of two boys from China, and let me tell you… it’s hard, it’s scary, and it’s worth it!  I wish you well on your adoption journey.

I love the line “I’m a sinner, but that’s not my name.”  Cool.

There’s a lot of good writing here.  Nice work!  Please pay it forward by leaving a comment on another writer’s song.  Thanks!

I really like the production on this song - it’s interesting to know the back story as I wouldn’t have necessarily guessed it from the lyrics. I read it as seeking to be a better person for a loved one.

Fine Wine

Aged like a fine wine from 1965
I’ve found reason from where I’ve been
Weathered like a sandstone, pressed into diamonds
Came from nothing but coal

I’ve made decisions with a buzz in my head,
You know I’ve let some things get the best of me yes I did
Oh but I’m forgiven but still I don’t quite understand.

Aged like a fine wine from 1965
I’ve found reason from where I’ve been
Weathered like a sandstone, pressed into diamonds
Came from nothing but coal

I wanna burn, oh for you
I wanna burn, oh for you

My soul been saved, my soul been saved
My soul been saved, my soul been saved, by grace
My soul been saved, my soul been saved
I’m a sinner but that’s not my name cause my soul been saved.

Aged like a fine wine from 1965
I’ve found reason from where I’ve been
Weathered like a sandstone, pressed into diamonds
Came from nothing but coal
Oh yeah

Aged like a fine wine from 1965
I’ve found reason from where I’ve been
Weathered like a sandstone, pressed into diamonds
Came from nothing but coal
