The lyrics are some of my best, I believe, and as a man, it comes from my heart. Every young boy eventually has to stand up and be counted and this song certainly places one in a sink or swim mentality. It certainly doesn't evoke the 'victimization' of modern society, but instead, gives understanding of becoming a man." /> “NOW I’M A MAN” by Robert Lloyd :: Songwriting Pro :: Helping Songwriters Turn Pro

About This Song

"NOW I'M A MAN" is one of my favorites that I have ever written. It's a low quality demo that is in need of proper re-recording but I usually spend my time on my newest songs instead.

The lyrics are some of my best, I believe, and as a man, it comes from my heart. Every young boy eventually has to stand up and be counted and this song certainly places one in a sink or swim mentality. It certainly doesn't evoke the 'victimization' of modern society, but instead, gives understanding of becoming a man.

Hey Robert… not bad, fits your voice perfectly.

I think V1L2 should be “I had”. Couldn’t tell from the recording, but the lyric sheet has “I have”.

In the chorus, I’d drop the “But” in the first line and all of the “And’s” that start each line… there’s way too many of them.  Also one or two too many in V2.

Hope this helps…

(Verse 1)
C G
Somewhere back in Tulsa, in a boyhood left behind...
Dm7 Am+D F G
I have never seen the world beyond the dreams of a young boy's mind...
G G
Now somewhere deep inside me, grows a man of twenty-one...
Dm7 Am+D F G
And it's hard to think in simple terms of what I have become...

(Chorus)
C Dm7 F G
But I've stopped my child illusions, now that I've become a man...
C Dm7 F G
And now I stopped my grand illusions, of what it takes to be a man...
Em Am Dm7 G
And I will deal with life's confusions, and learn to take it like a man...
Em Am F
And I have reached my own conclusions, and I accept the world...
Dm7 G C Dm7 Am+D G Gsus G
And I understand now I'm a man...

(Verse 2)
I walk among as equal, and command respect of fools...
And I'll fight my way through Satan's world, to your doorstep safe with you...
And now with life before me, I no longer show the fear...
And I figured out how this games played and now the world will hear...

(Chorus)
How I've stopped my child illusions, now that I've become a man...
And now I've stopped my grand illusions, of what it takes to be a man...
And I will deal with life's confusions, and learn to take it like a man...
And I have reached my own conclusions, and I accept the world...
And I understand now I'm a man...
Now I'm a man...
