Wanted to write a relationship song, about trying to be played. Sat down with Maddy Rodriguez and Johnny Simmen and we came up with Keyboard. Wrote it on my March Break trip to Nashville.
Thanks Ronnie -its funny - one of my friends Murray Daigle says that if someone says your song is good for sync, then it means its not a good song ha ha ![]()
This song is interesting to me. I was trying to use the idea of the keyboard kind of like nicki minaj’s song “Grand Piano” or ” dont play me like an accordian, When I play the song live on a keyboard - it seems to come off okay - cause they seem me on stage playing a keyboard. There is other references to a stage, playing me, player, show, that hint to a performance as well. I am not sure what to do with this song. I dont think I want to go back to the studio with it, cause thats expensive, but maybe I will change a few things for my live shows with it. Thanks for the feedback Ronnie!!

Just a suggestion… change the title to “The Player” and make the last two lines of the chorus something like “You’re the player”.

Verse 1
Boys like you need an audience
You're used to starry eyes
you've been expecting a reaction
You get one every time
Pre:
You take
the stage
it's always
the same
I gotta shut down this game
Chorus
Cause I don't want another player
and I can tell that you're playing me
switching up the key and confusing me
saying were meant to be
when everybody here knows
They know about your fancy tricks
yeah, you're talented
but everybody here knows
I ain't a keyboard
I ain't a keyboard
Verse 2:
Can't believe I almost believed you
and your string of white lies
Im over that now,
thank you
you keep reminding me why
Pre
Youre no good
For me
Anyone
Can see
You don't deserve a girl like me
Chorus

Hi Mikalyn, Thanks for posting your latest song. You have that Film/TV sound to your productions. I like the song, it’s catchy in some areas but not as a whole for me. It does have potential though.
The title. The only reference to a keyboard I see in the lyric is the “switching up the key” line. Along with the end of the chorus. There’s a few other keywords like stage, player that could go either way but the didn’t connect for me until after the fact.
Maybe try reworking that chorus, come up with a better title like ” I ain’t your instrument” attitude of a song and work that hook.
Just suggestions, Happy Songwriting ♫♪
