First Love, Last Love

I texted my childhood sweetheart on Facebook after 40 years & told her I have loved twice in my life & am with neither woman today. She was my first love & my last love had recently gone away. I texted her "First Love, Last Love" & also told her "First love, Last Love" would be a great song TITLE. I was gonna work on it immediately. I kicked it around in my head for a week & finally picked up the guitar & worked out the HOOK. Originally it was my personal story about 2 loves lost. The early versions were too personal & painful to write. But I tried, & was almost ready to give up on the song as I felt it was just me healing. In fact, the first tag line I wrote originally went "Sometimes baby love AIN'T meant to be". But I didn't want a break up song, or a love lost song. There's enough of those. Instinctively I began to write about how love should be & could be. Plus I thought when someone hears this TITLE they are gonna want it to be about a first love that is also their last love. A love that lasts. I think deep down we all want to believe that. So the TITLE called that out for me to change the direction of the song, & I listened. So I wrote about how I feel love is meant to be. Hopefully I have captured that for others in their search for love as well. I may not be with my "First Love" or for that matter, my "Last Love", but I got a helluva song out of it....
