About This Song

I took a bit of artistic license in telling the story of Clyde Tombaugh, the discoverer of Pluto, as if he were my best friend growing up, and if the reason he discovered the planet was due to a picture I took of the both of us goofing off. (It's a rough draft, kinda sloppy... I know)

This has really fun feel to it. I really like the story telling. The unique perspective is really neat. I enjoyed it. I’d love to see what others feel about it. Thanks for sharing.

Now I see Pluto… I really love that.

Charlie,

This is a really good song. It gave me goosebumps. You are such a good storyteller. And I said it on one of your other songs - I love your voice.

Nothing to critique here - just a damn good song.

Nice feel to the song and storytelling. Maybe at that pace it needs a little ‘something’ in the chorus.

An original song, the best kind! Good storytelling, Charlie. No criticisms from me.

VERSE 1
Me and Clyde met in the second grade, he lived next door just ‘round the fence
He sold cookies, I sold lemonade, in our driveways everyday for fifteen cents

Every evening through the telescope, Clyde would scour through the skies
He looked for rocks and stars and meteors, while I photographed the best times of our lives

That one photo’s memory always stays, our arms were spread like we could fly
Clyde, he loved to stare at it for days, he discovered something strange among
The twinkles in that picture’s sky

CHORUS
Now, I see Pluto waving down at me
Three billion miles in the sky
The heavens will not be the same for me
Thanks to that photograph I took of me and Clyde

VERSE 2
Me and Clyde were like PB and J, like America and apple pie
And, though I learned to shoot a photograph, I was so darn sure that Clyde would learn to fly

But, there was one who set his heart ablaze, Patty Edson was her name
Clyde would get lost in her eyes for days, And he showed how much he loved her when he
Gave his favorite star her name

[CHORUS]

BRIDGE
[It] can be hard to hide when the sun is in your eyes
Wonders will arrive when two worlds collide

VERSE 3
Me and Clyde met in the second grade, that was ninety years ago today
I swear I see him with his arms out wide, as he sets a course beyond the Milky Way

That one photo’s memory always stays, the one where we pretend to fly
I will cherish all those golden days, with the one who brought the heavens down
To live inside our hearts and lives

[CHORUS]
