About This Song

I wrote this song based on an idea of how sometimes a father can break a daughter's heart even when he thinks he is doing the right thing. A story of true love and loss.

I have had some interest in this song over the last few years but nothing has materialized...wondered if it is really pitching material or not. I appreciate and can handle all critique. smile I was told by one song plugger it reminded them of the old classic El Paso by Marty Robbins.

It reminds me of a Chris Isaak song.  It’s a cool song with a cool vibe.

Destiny and Doom

The Market square was buzzing when she caught his eye
Clean took his breath away and left him mesmerized
She was selling sweet molasses pie it lingered in the air
As light danced round like rose cut diamonds in her hair

She shaded her lovely face from the high noon rays
Her heart skipped a beat as she settled on his gaze
Her Papa hovered near by completely unaware
Love had found its way to her in that young man’s stare

When the cupid calls
When two lovers fall
Fate doesn’t always unfold in kind
Should destiny and doom collide

He waited by the general store almost ‘til sunset
The market peddlers packed up most already left
Her Papa walked on by him to the Lonely Buck saloon
Left his daughter at the stable with the wagon and the moon

With her gelding Duke she waited wrapped in her best shawl
The shy young man soon found her in the dusty stall
The night flew by way faster than a dogwood arrow
He knew she was the one and longed to be her hero

When the cupid calls
When two lovers fall
Fate doesn’t always unfold in kind
Should destiny and doom collide

As the morning lit the blue the town fast asleep
She knew in her heart they were meant to be
With her hand over his she leaned in for their first kiss
When a sharp searing pain came ripping through his ribs

Papa did what a man does to protect his daughter
No charges were laid not even manslaughter
But the sentence to imprison him Papa realized
Was the light he killed forever in his lovely Annie’s eyes

No fate doesn’t always unfold in kind
Should destiny and doom
Should destiny and doom
Should destiny and doom collide
