Story about me and my Granpa before he passed away

When I was young, I’d run to Grandpa’s house
And he’d take me fishin’ on Long Lake
We’d talk of trucks and women and how to learn from clouds
And famous fish too smart to take your bait
One time he touched my hand and looked me in the eyes
Said “Son I ain’t no poet and don’t claim to be wise, but
Chorus
Remember this sweet summer day
The way the warm breeze teased the lake
An ol’ man spinnin’ fishin’ yarns
And how the sun felt on your arms
And when I leave this world, just close your eyes
And let this memory say goodbye”
The seasons flew and I went off to school
And filled my head with stuff that I’ve forgot
I studied just a little and partied like a fool
Chased a lot of girls I never caught
Then one lazy July day I tapped on Grandpa’s screen
And on that final fishin’ afternoon he said to me
Chorus2 “Remember how this feels right now
Boy I’ve never been more proud
Your whole life’s about to bloom
And I’ll go join your Grandma soon
But right before I do I’ll close my eyes
And let this memory say goodbye”
Bridge
Mom called me late one night and said, “I think you better come
Grandpa’s doin’ poorly, I’m afraid it won’t be long”
But I got there too late, they told me he’d already gone
So I cried for a while ...and then I had a smile
