About This Song

Love for the long lost art of creating a mixtape for someone special!

Feedback Requested

Open to any and all feedback! Also curious to know if this work tape/demo hybrid is sufficient to convey the song idea, or if more production is needed. Thanks so much!

She wore her auburn hair in a messy braid - and her eyes were blue
I’d been in love with her since the second grade - she didn’t have a clue
I couldn’t tell her face to face
And I sure as hell didn’t know what to say
Asked Dad how he charmed mom back in the day
And this is what he said

I poured my heart out in a mixtape
It coulda been an old X-L Maxell or a T-D-K
right from the FM radio onto a cassette
Like I was Romeo and she was Juliette
She didn’t know that I existed
’til that ninety minute Grammy winning soundtrack said what I couldn’t say
She played it over and over and over and over again
and you know how the movie ends
I poured my heart out in a mixtape
I poured my heart out in a mixtape

I kicked it off with “Check Yes or No” - then added “Maybe I’m Amazed”*
and just to let her know I had soul - I finished it with “Lovely Day”
Though no one’s ever called me artsy
wrote down those track names with a Sharpie
marked my favorites with a heart
on my sleeve — put that sleeve in the case

CHORUS

He said a playlist on Spotify
ain’t gonna satisfy
she can’t hold it in her hands
Found his old Panasonic
And just like John Cusack
I held it up high in my hands

and poured my heart out in a mixtape
I told her that I loved her on the B-side — of that T-D-K
right from the FM radio onto a cassette
Like I was Romeo and she was Juliette
She didn’t know that I existed
’til that ninety minute Grammy winning soundtrack said what I couldn’t say
She played it over and over and over and over again
and you know how the movie ends
I poured my heart out in a mixtape
I poured my heart out in a mixtape

You can put Michael and Alan Jackson on the same B-side -you be the one to decide
You can put Michael and Alan Jackson on the same B-side -you be the one to decide
