About This Song

A friend of mine was stuck on a piano riff for a few months that was a perfect fit for a prompt on SongTopic. The prompt was "is enough". The line "the truth is enough" resulted. What's a worst truth than "she don't call here anymore"?

I say this as a compliment - you both sound and have a similar style to Marc Cohn, who I think is a tremendous singer/songwriter. Very cool song! I love the simplicity of the arrangement and the complexity of the lyric,

Tom,

Great to see you on Frettie! Awesome debut song. This is great! That piano sounds awesome. The beauty of this is in the simplicity for sure. Look forward to hearing your other music. Nice to see the use of a SongTopic prompt.

Tom, love this song!  It moved me.  I echo previous comments about simplicity, less in this song is so much more.  I loved this lyric “I’ll hold her hand through the innocence”.  The lyric “at any turn” is a bit awkward for me…I wonder if you just sang “could break a man” and either elongated it or just let it sit what that might sound like.  That’s my only constructive criticism.  The song feels fantastic to me.

She Don’t Call

Written by Tom Atha

I've been stoned by a woman
She don't throw like a girl
The way she aims with her eyes closed
Could break a man at any turn
So I'll pack my luck
And I'll hold her hand through the innocence

I've been accused
Of holding on too strong
Yes I've been accused
And it's more than I can stand
Cause the truth is enough
She don't call here anymore

I've been loved by an angel
She don't know she's on earth
The way she smiles at every stranger
Makes them believe in their own worth
So I'll pack my luck
And I'll hold her hand through the innocence

I've been accused
Of holding on too strong
Yes, I've been accused
And it's more than I can stand
Cause the truth is enough
She don't call here anymore.
