11 years old and under the hood
Of a 58 ford that didn't run too good
Holding the light so daddy could make her purr
After 20 questions about what broke
He paused for a minute before he spoke
I'll always remember what he told me word for word
He said "Son, this motor is a lot like life
what starts it all is a little bit of light

Like the first time I ever saw your mom
In the high school gym at the senior prom
She was dancing with somebody else but I didn't care
Something 'bout her lit a fire inside
And I knew that night I had to try
She was so far outta my league I didn't have a prayer

Like this old truck your grandpa let me take
to pick up your mama for our first date
And the campfire that we built the night we first kissed
And every star in that big ol' sky
We were staring up at talking all night
And the dream that I could have a lifetime of this
Standing below her front porch light
I asked her dad if she could be my wife
