Jerry Reed was going to make a movie about moonshining and wanted a song for a chase scene. So, me and my friend wrote this song after I had my van in for service. When they gave me a loaner vehicle, They said, " Be careful she runs like a scalded dog".

Ran Like A Scalded Dog
Intro
Verse
Well, she set out back behind the barn down yonder at the neighbors house
Every time I'd walk by she'd catch my eye, so I'd stop and check her out
Just a beat up truck all stuck in the mud, but the motor was good inside
She didn't mean much to anyone else, but I had to make her mine
Verse
So, I walked up to that farmer's house and knocked upon his door
Said, mister how much would you take for that truck of yours
He said son you won't believe it, this is your lucky day
That trusty old dog is lookin' for a home, you can have her if you haul her away
Chorus
Man, she ran like a scalded dog
We were gone in the blink of an eye
She ran like a scalded dog
Faster than the lightnin' in the sky
Just a bucket of rust, it didn't look like much
But, she ran like a scalded dog
Solo
Verse
I still can hear those words that old farmer said to me
Son you better be careful and always watch your speed
That motor's been bored and it's been stroked, got Strombergs on the top
She was built to outrun the law and we ain't never been stopped
Verse
You see it was the year of nineteen forty nine
We were runnin' white lightnin' across the county line
They were always tryin' to catch us, those backroads out of town
But, they could never do it when we put the hammer to it no slowin' that puppy down
Chorus
