About This Song

This song is a lament-an expression from someone who has experienced a personal loss. I have probably attended more funerals this past year than I have in any one year of my life so far. One thing I have found is that people often do not know what to say to someone who is grieving. In reading the Book of Job, we see that Job had some wonderful friends that came and just sat with him in silence for 7 days after the tragic events he experienced. That was the best thing they did. The problem came when they opened their mouths and tried to analyze and judge Job's actions. Pastor Rick Warren says the best thing you can do for someone who is grieving is to "Show up and shut up." (That could be a good title for another song-what do you think?) I have shared this song on Facebook, and it seems to offer a voice to those who are struggling and an answer for how to respond to grief. I think the pandemic has left many people in varying stages of grief through losses of loved ones, losses of jobs and more.

Feedback Requested

This is just a work tape. I am trying to decide if this song is ready to go to a proper demo. I need to know if the song has a message that is universal enough to be usable on a wider scale, or if it would be better just to plan to use it at my local level. Thanks for your input. I hope the song blesses you.

Uncle Brent ...

Hi Teresa,
The lyrics and music are really sad.  This is a good work tape but if you choose to record it make sure the band or producer creates a big transition moving from the verses to the Chorus.  This song has an Evanescence feel so it could really cross genres with a tempo increase.  My favorite line is “Don’t try to fix me.”  Thanks, Uncle Brent

Just Be Here 3-21-21
Copyright 2021 Teresa Lynn Ross

Verse 1
I don’t really want to talk
But I don’t want to be alone
Don’t say a word
There are no words
If you’re wond’ring what to do
The only thing that you can do
Join me in silence
Give me your presence

Chorus
As I’m pouring out my grief
As I stare down unbelief
Just be here, Be here
Please don’t tell me not to cry
Please don’t try to explain why
Just be here, Be here
Just be here

Verse 2
Broken heart and wounded life
Grief will be bearable in time
But not right now
No, not right now
Listen to my long laments
As I am working through regrets
Don’t try to fix me
Just be here with me

Chorus

Bridge
This would be to hard to bear
But you’re lifting me in prayer
I know the truth is
I will get through this
You are helping me through this

Chorus

Tag
I don’t really want to talk
But I don’t want to be alone
