Upbeat Country Rock song about that time of life when kids are about to leave the nest and explore a whole new world while figuring what to make of the advice they heard as kids, like the Tom Petty's many words of wisdom.

DEAR TOM PETTY
Words and Music By Matt Salada, Copyright 2021
VERSE ONE:
I got some Marlboro Reds from my daddy’s truck
And a case of beer from the country club
Where I worked last summer at the back nine bar and grill
I was skipping school with my best friends
Our senior year was about to end
But we played Tom Petty so loud that time stood still
As I wondered do
CHORUS
Losers like me really get lucky sometimes
If somehow we run down a dream are we bound to find
That the waiting isn’t the hardest part
‘Cause that American girl is just gonna break our hearts
Will she break our hearts?
VERSE TWO
We all played it cool, yeah, we acted tough
But change was comin’ sure enough
With sirens a-warnin’, yeah, were all boardin’ that train
Bound for College towns to Camp Lejeune
We were scared as hell but dying to get there soon
And free fall somewhere nobody knows` our name
While we ask Tom Petty do
CHORUS
Losers like me really get lucky sometimes
If somehow we run down a dream are we bound to find
That the waiting isn’t the hardest part
‘Cause some American girl is just gonna break our hearts
Will she break our hearts?
BRIDGE
That valley freeway is running straight through my sole
It’s rims to rims and I can’t control
Which fight’s comin’ or which way I’m running
Cause I don’t know what’s just a line
Hey do
CHORUS
Losers like me really get lucky sometimes
If somehow we run down a dream are we bound to find
That the waiting isn’t the hardest part
‘Cause an American girl is just gonna break our hearts
Will she break our hearts?

Hi Matt,
Very COOL ... I love Tom Petty. You did a great job working in all the Petty song names. The song has a Petty feel but a slide on the guitar could bring it even closer to the sound. My favorite line is “But we played Tom Petty so loud that time stood still.” Keep swing for the fence! Thanks, Uncle Brent
