About This Song

"You Can Never Go Back to Where You Been" is about consequences and choices following a betrayal; after you realize that what you had was more important than what you thought you wanted. This song just hit the New Music Weekly Country charts.

Uncle Brent ...

Hi James,
This song has a Tom Petty feel to me. You’re gonna think I’m crazy but it could be cool to have bag pipes on this song.  This song seems long and might only need two verses.  I’d considering removing all the instruments and go totally acapella on the end because it sounds cool.

Thanks,
Uncle Brent

INTRO

VERSE 1
Sometimes when things aren’t workin’ well,
And somehow it seems you can always tell,
You have to know when to break the ties,
By tellin’ the truth or start tellin’ lies.

When you know you done somebody wrong,
And all the feelin’s they had are gone,
You finally have to realize,
The time has come to say goodbye.

CHORUS
You can never go back to where you been,
unless you can start all over again,
You got no choice but to give it up,
And move on down the road.

VERSE 2
When you looked around found things weren’t good,
Weren’t workin’ out like you thought they should,
You had no right to be feelin’ sad,
Cryin’ about the hard luck you had.

Cause you had a turn and you missed your chance,
By changin’ partners in the middle of the dance,
Say you don’t like the way you’ve found,
When it came to the deal you put your money down.

REPEAT CHORUS

VERSE 3
When you tried everything that you know to try,
When you’ve hurt a little and you’ve had a cry,
You know you caused it all yourself,
It’s time to put things on the shelf.

When you risked a lot and things got tough,
Found yourself in a place where life seemed rough,
You looked around for someone to blame,
Looked in the mirror and remembered the name.

REPEAT CHORUS
REPEAT CHORUS ACAPELLA
