About This Song

A cautionary tale. A Sad and beautiful person can draw you into their orbit...but should you let them?

Poor Man Walking

Written by Naomi Elliott

Poor Man Walking
Naomi Elliott

The story goes he lives on his victims’ joy
like it was the marrow of life inside the bone
I was blinded by the sun and could not see
All the broken hearts he left fallen in the leaves
I met a poor man /walking, poor me

Chorus
And there he goes a Poor Man Walking
picking off the butterflies’ wings
And he is caging all the songbirds that sing
Oooo, let me be- ooooo, set me free

Poor man walking he was born a beautiful thing
But he grew up broken and never learned to sing
It says in the great book, “You live what you learn,
rotten trees grow rotten apples, you poor little seed”.
Thorns grow among the roses and they grow among weeds
Poor Man// walking sad and beautiful

Chorus
And there he goes a Poor Man Walking
picking off the butterflies’ wings
And he is caging all the songbirds that sing
Oooo, let me be- ooooo, set me free

Poor Man Walking has been here before
My bones are nervous-my blood turns icy and cold
Too late, I find out his heart is filled with rage
If I sing out loud -I’ll get stuck inside his cage
So I’ll quiet my voice- be the perfect angel
Poor Man walking won’t hear me
