About This Song

I wrote this some years ago. Kind of a short story sort of song. I left home to go to work when I was seventeen and my Dad assured me that, whatever happened, I always had a home to come back to and that always stuck with me. Otherwise not autobiographical. This is me singing, playing and recording. Unfortunately I am not expert at any of those things but we do what we can.

Feedback Requested

Would appreciate any feedback. Does the song work? Does the story come through? Are there any lines that make you wince? There are a couple that I am not too crazy about. (I won't say which ones)

To be honest I think the answer to “does this song work?” really depends on what you are expecting from the song. Based on the production and music, it seems you are going for an old school vibe and it seems you have knocked that out of the park. If you were shooting for a modern country song that you would find on the radio, there are some dated lines and the production would need to change. So all in all I think its a killer song, just all depends on what you are trying to achieve with the song!

Thank you Grayson for the feedback. I agree that the song doesn’t’ work as modern country.  If I ever do get an opportunity to pitch it, I would be thinking maybe bluegrass, maybe southern gospel, Americana. It is old-school.

Always a Way to Go...

Written by Tim Scott

I thought I was living the good life
Pleasure was my hearts one desire
So I gave it all I had, 'till the good life went bad
My golden dreams went up like a fire

I recalled then the days of my childhood
And the simple joys our little family shared
We didn't know that we were poor, the folks just trusted in the Lord
How can I get from here, back to there?

Pre-chorus:
I remembered the words of my father
On that day when I went out on my own
He said, Son your bound to roam, just remember when your gone
There's always a way to come home

Chorus:
There's always a way to go home
When your drifting and lost, you must go to the cross
Remember you're never alone
There's always a way to go home

For some reason I pulled into the churchyard
Down a country lane in eastern Tennesee
The preacher smiled his greeting, shook my hand as we were meeting
It almost seemed he'd been expecting me

We walked into the church, up to the altar
We talked and then I got down on my knees
I prayed, Lord if you will take me, I will never more forsake thee
And I won't forget why Jesus died for me

Pre-Chorus:
I remembered the words of my father
On that day when I went out on my own
He said, Son, your bound to roam, just remember when your gone
There's always a way to come home

Chorus:

Repeat Chorus
