About This Song

Lyrics:

I’ll just leave my shoes on
Because frankly I won’t be here very long
Thought I’d stop by
To say hi
Well… Hello
Now goodbye

Oh, you want me to stay?
Then why don’t you ever act that way
Until I go to leave
Am I to believe
When you say
That you love me

Or the other times
When you say that I’m
The worst decision you’ve ever made
You play both sides
So whose right,
Jekyll or Hyde

My bags are by the front door
I even got my toothbrush out the drawer
So if you find
Something I left behind
you can throw it away
Or keep it to remind you of

The times
When you’d say that I’m
The best decision you ever made
You play both sides
So who is right
Jekyll or Hyde

But I think I left my car on
So if you want to tell me I am wrong
Go ahead
Say it again
And every time
I’ll stay instead

Because you could be
The one for me
Or the worst decision I’ve ever made
But I’ll stay tonight
To see who is right
If you find
That you change your mind
And that I’m worth having around
Please just don’t wait
Before it’s too late
Jekyll & Hyde

Hi Dillon,
The production and the recording sound really good. And, assuming that’s you singing, you’re a really good singer too…... It reminds me some of Michael Buble, but sad. His songs are usually happy. Your music has a happier sound, compared to the lyrics. I think they call that prosody, when you want the music and melody to match the lyrics….. Are you sure you couldn’t rewrite this to be a happier, love song? Just a thought. Maybe something about your unconditional love, no matter if she’s in Jekyll mode or Hyde mode? smile The ol’ “you’re cute even when you’re mad” thing….. The intro is long. I didn’t time it, but it seems like a long time to get to the first verse, which makes it longer to get to the chorus. That’s something I struggle with too. I’ve received lots of comments about taking too long to get to the chorus. But, I’m guessing this is not a song you’re pitching to artists for the radio, so my hunch is that this doesn’t matter….. On a production note, when you go into your chorus, it doesn’t have the feeling of “okay, this is definitely the chorus”. You could use sparser instrumentation in the first verse, such as just one instrument, or maybe no drums, so that when you come into the chorus, it’s more dramatic and noticeable. In the chorus, you could change up your drums to use the snare instead of the sidestick too. Maybe stop/hold the drums and music for that last line of verse one to create that tension and excitement that something new (the chorus) is about to happen. You sing great, so maybe add a backing harmony vocal to some of the chorus….. Just some of my thoughts. I really enjoyed listening to the song, even thought it’s a bit sad. I really liked listening to that sort of jazz, adult contemporary sound with your Buble sounding voice…. You should consider writing some songs for film/tv sync opportunities with your voice and style…. Good luck with your music, and thanks for sharing.

I definitely agree with the above review- a great jazzy Buble type song..I’m a sucker for sad songs. There is definitely a clear message. A great melody for sure.
