About This Song

The idea was the way adults think of spending the night with someone. It was a common phrase my brother, cousins and I said a lot to our parents. "Can I go spend the night at so and so's" or "Can so and so spend the night with us". Now days when we would have a different meaning to Spend the Night.

Feedback Requested

Does the song connect to you as a listener? Good story? Lyrically strong? Melodically strong? Is its fresh enough to grasp attention from a major artist, for them to want to record it?

Hi Matt ...

We like this one a lot. A great selection of backing tracks ... the banjo was a great choice! Your vocals are super ... the harmony was particularly nice! The lyric has a nice, easy and familiar feel.

Only minor suggestion would be a bit if reverb on your vocal ... we think that would give a little more dynamic. But it still sounds terrific as is. Just our thought.

Enjoyed it a lot!

Forgot to add one thing, FWIW ... I (Alan) played lead guitar in several country bands for many, many years. Country is one of our very favorite genres.

As a country fan… how could it not.  Has a nice 90’s feel to me, which is on the way back.

Good story? I feel like it’s pretty standard; a tale told once (or more) per country album since John Michael Montgomery showed up on the scene.

Lyrically strong? I could see it happening and I liked some of the turns of phrase. I could follow along without having to make any mental jumps. I wished I could have it in front of me to read though.

Melodically strong? Not my strong suit, but it definitely fit the lyric and felt comfortable as an old pair of boots.

I just don’t know. If the artist wrote it, it probably would.  But unless the network is in place, it’s a tough pitch because there are so many like it.  That said, with the 90s sound coming back, there might be a huge market for this type of song in the near future.

Enjoyed it!

Hey Matt,

I would have liked to have seen the lyrics for this song. The chorus catches my attention. The music itself is hitting all the right notes with the melody. It does have that 90s Country sound appeal to it.

Is that you singing on the demo?

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed the listen!

Will get back to you again in a few days., I’m very sick right now but wanted you to know I have some thoughts about your song. But it will be a day or two before I get to it.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for the feedback on Spend the Night! I will get the lyrics up for this one so you guys can follow along while listening. This is me signing the demo, fortunately that was one of my perks to getting writes early in Nashville. I could lay the vocal for the demo. Your comments really mean a lot to me in my growth and success for writing, this one was one of the earlier ones we penned back in 2013/2014 when I first started my network of writers. Look forward to hearing more feedback on others I get posted up on the site. Thanks, MT

Hey Matt,
I really enjoyed the lyrics. It took me back to some summer nights on the Coosa river back in Alabama growing up. This does have a traditional country melody to it, but that’s right up my alley. Great job.

Spend the Night

Written by Matt Tucker

The trucks warmed up
Sitting in the drive
Only thing missing is you by my side
The moon's out waiting on you to bring the shine
Got it all planned out in my head
Blanket and a bottle and a sandy river bed
Can't wait to see the dust in the taillights
That's how I want to spend the night

Just watching the moon floating on the water
Feel your heart beating harder
While I'm kissing' you slow
Holding you close
Taking every moment letting you know
That it feels so right
That's how I want to spend the night

Only got about five miles left on black top
Two right turns and it turns to rock
The ride gets a little bumpy before we stop
We open up the doors with the radio on
Barefoot dancing to our favorite song
Wish on a falling star this love never dies
That's how I want to spend the night

Just watching the moon floating on the water
Feel your heart beating harder
While I'm kissing' you slow
Holding you close
Taking every moment letting you know
That it feels so right
That's how I want to spend the night

Just watching the moon floating on the water
Feel your heart beating harder
While I'm kissing' you slow
Holding you close
Taking every moment letting you know
That it feels so right
That's how I want to spend the night
