Hi Brent, Is this a new song? I love it and you are the master story teller and evoke feelings and emotions with your words.

Love the vocals and guitar tracks too.

Okay Brent, are you trying to get me to throw in the towel? Im not worthy… lol Well I wont throw in the towel but WOW brother thats a great song.

I’ve always found it fun to write list songs but making them jump out and grab you by the heart strings is an entirely different level of fantastic! Whoever did the melody and music did an amazing job and the vocalists tone is perfect for this kind of hometown song! Talk about a room full of furniture, geesh! lol The lyrics are simplistically intellectual! The 1st line I think describes how a lot of us feel and by the end of the verse I was already hooked.
For me, I get attached to houses and towns and I get nostalgic when I hear great songs from perspectives like this and songs like “House that built me” etc. Theres a nice lift in the chorus. During the bridge, the change of melody was great and I got totally pulled in from the line “i’m every sidewalk and street where you left history” This is just a very well crafted song from A to Z!

IF and thats a big if, I had anything at all to critique, it would be that I was hoping the 3rd line of the chorus was going to have a slight variation in the vocal melody or progression. It wasn’t enough to derail me from the song, I was just feeling like it was going to be slightly repetitive but even then the 4th line saves it just in time.

I enjoyed listening and this just became one of my favorite songs, even though I feel like I just got schooled on how to write a great song! Okay got to run, I think my nose has something on it lol!
Great song Brent, thanks for sharing!

I’m Your Hometown

Written by Brent Baxter

I can be small minded, but I’m wiser than you know
I’m friends and neighbors who all watched you grow
I can make you miss me or mad
With memories good and bad
I saw your first kiss and your first broken heart
With one of my daughters behind the swings in my park
Yeah, I was always around
‘Cuz I’m your hometown... And

CHORUS
I’m where you learned to dream
I gave you roots and I gave you wings
I’ll always be where they raised you up
No matter where they lay you down
I’m your hometown
I’m your hometown

I cradle your grandpa on the top of one of my hills
You left some blood on the grass of my football field
And I forgive you for running me down
The day that you rolled out... and

CHORUS

I passed you that first burn of bonfire whiskey
I’m every sidewalk and street where you left history
I’m that red brick house on Rock Ridge Road
That your mama still calls home... and

CHORUS

I saw your first breath
And I saw your first regret
And I saw your last time down my high school steps
My mud and water’s in your blood
I’m the ones you hate and the ones you love
I’m your hometown
I’m your hometown
I can be small-minded, but I’m wiser than you know
