For all those people out there who miss the long instrumental solos that rock songs from the 70's used to have.
I don't always know where my songs come from. But after spending an afternoon last fall wandering around in the Bisti Badlands, I woke up the next morning in a hotel room in Farmington, New Mexico and discovered a good chunk of this song already playing in my head.
For those who are not familiar with the Bisti BLM, let's just say it would not be a difficult place to die if you are not careful. No hiking trails. Usually no other hikers. Very easy to get lost in the canyons if you wander outside the main wash without a GPS device. I posted a photo of some of its surreal landscape on one of my 500px sites this morning. You can find it here if you like:

I had wanted to try tweeking a few things on this work tape before posting it. But Tommy Grimes and I were talking earlier this week about how we miss those long instrumental solos that rock songs used to treat us to back in the 70's, so I thought I'd go ahead and put it up as is. 'Eat A Peach' it isn't, and the song has some slightly macabre lyrics, but the guitar work might be worth checking out if you like that sort of thing.
Very, very cool - the best one you have posted so far. Like all about the song, the feel, the lyrics, the solos! Great work!

When I lay dying
From an outlaw's gun
Just leave me lying
In the badlands sun
Don't call no doctor
Don't call no nurse
Don't call the sheriff
Don't send for the hearse
When I lay dying
Don't say no prayers
Won't need no favors
From the man upstairs
Don't play no sad songs
Don't dig no grave
And don't turn things to ashes
That you'll just throw away
When I lay dying
In my blue suede suit
I won't need this bow tie
Or these snakeskin boots
Won't need this guitar
Or my sombrero hat
Won't need my good gal
You can have all that
When I lay dying
From a bad man's gun
Just leave me lying
In the badlands sun
Don't call no doctor
Don't call no nurse
Don't call the sheriff
Don't call the hearse
When I lay dying
Here's all I need
Just leave me lying
Let the vultures feed
Send my heart up flying
On a blackbird's wings
Let my heart go flying
On a blackbird's wings

I’m glad you went for the extended instrumentals. The song would be fun to dance to in a juke joint and the entire purpose of a solo is to extend the groove/song for the dancers. I could totally see this opening up for a psycho-billy show like Reverend Horton Heat. I would have loved to see you play with the dynamics a little more. The song moved right along without a lot of build up to your solos. I think Hendrix’s instrumental version of Sunshine of Love live at Winterland or Redhouse at the same show are what I have in mind. Sorry, I don’t have the musical language to explain it.
