This song was written about the current political climate.
The current production is a different style for me - more of a pop / R&B production. It's what I was aiming for but still hasn't settled in for me completely so I'm wondering what people make of it. It's still a rough version, I'm re-recording all the vocals at a later date.
Thanks Brent - this was kind of a new exercise for me, to try and write another ‘political’ song. I’m hoping it would work for either side of the fence though… I’ve been thinking about exactly what you point out here - there’s a few different stories going on at the same time, a general political one, a more abstract personal one and maybe those dots don’t quite join up!

Hey, Marcus, thanks for sharing your music with us! I like the phrasing on the verses- how you have the quick phrasing but don’t let it go too long before hitting a few longer phrases. I also like the groove. Laid back, feels good.
For me, there’s some sort of disconnect when we get to the chorus. Now, the chorus is catchy, but I guess I’m not sure how much people will want to hear a song that says, “hey, so much of the world sucks so I NEVER smile.”
What if you follow up the “head in the sand” idea with how you blow it off and have a good time. So while the listener knows you are down about the state of the world, you are either faking a smile or partying to avoid reality. So it’s kind of ironic. But it could be like Don Henley’s old classic “All She Wants To Do Is Dance.” That song is very political, but it feels great and a lot of peopled danced to it without even really knowing what it’s about.
Granted, that’s a very different angle- one you just may not want to take. But it’s a thought.
