About This Song

The song is about an elderly lady who has outlived most of her family and friends and relies on her memory to re-live her past.

Hey, Barry!  Thanks for sharing!  Just a couple quick observations.  I like some of the images like the hair brushing and pulling on shoes.

I notice that you switched the POV between “she” and “you” in the song.  I’d try to keep those consistent.  It might be okay to go with the “universal you” in the chorus, but you specifically speak TO the person you were speaking ABOUT, it gets confusing.

Just some thoughts.  Hope it helps.  There’s a lot of good work in this.  Please pay it forward by leaving a comment on another writer’s song!

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion Brent,
You were right about the `she` and `you` and it is now sorted

Make it Last

Written by barry guy

Make it Last

She opens her eyes for another long day
And thinks of events from her past
` My memories are good` to herself she says
make it last, make it last, make it last.

THE BRUSH IN HER HAND QUITE CARESSES HER HAIR
THOUGH THE COLOUR MAY NOT BE THE SAME
BUT WHAT IS THE POINT WHEN THERE`S NO ONE THERE
IT`S ALL PART OF LIFES LITTLE GAME

CLOCKS CAN`T TURN BACK TODAY OR ANY
CROSSROADS OF LIFE BEHIND
MEMORIES OF FOLK YOU KNEW NOW ALL GONE
BUT STILL ALIVE IN YOUR MIND

SO HAPPY WAS SHE IN HER EARLIER YEARS
SHE SHARED HERSELF TO LOVED ONES ALL
NOW THINKING OF TIMES AND HER NEEDLESS FEARS
WHEN MOTHERHOOD THEN WAS HER CALL

SHE PULLS ON HER SHOES TO HER NOW AGED FEET
THEN VENTURES OUTSIDE FOR A WHILE
REMEMBERS WHEN SHE TOO HAD SOMEONE TO GREET
REMEMBERS WHEN SHE TOO HAD STYLE

CLOCKS CAN`T TURN BACK TODAY OR ANY
CROSSROADS OF LIFE BEHIND
MEMORIES OF FOLK YOU KNEW ALL NOW GONE
BUT STILL ALIVE IN YOUR MIND

THEN SOMEONE SAID `HOW ARE YOU MOM`
WE`VE COME FOR A WEEKEND WITH YOU
I HOPE YOU DON`T MIND BUT THERE`S THREE OF US NOW
YOUR GRANDSON MAKES ONE MORE THAN TWO

SHE SMILES AND PREPARES SOME FOOD FOR THREE
QUIETLY HUMMING A ONCE SHARED SONG
SAY`S MY HUSBAND IS HERE NOW TO COMFORT ME
HE`S HERE IN THE EYES OF THE YOUNG

CLOCKS CAN`T TURN BACK TODAY OR ANY
CROSSROADS OF LIFE BEHIND
MEMORIES OF FOLK YOU KNEW MOST NOW GONE
BUT SOME NOW ALIVE IN YOUR MIND

SHE`S NOW COME ALIVE FREED THE MOTHER INSIDE
AND THE CLOCK TURNS AROUND TO BEFORE
IT`S JUST FOR A WHILE SAYS THE LADY WITH STYLE
BUT I`M GRATEFULL FOR FEELINGS ONCE MORE

SHE OPENS HER EYES FOR ANOTHER LONG DAY
SHE THINKS OF EVENTS FROM HER PAST
NOW MEMORIES OF FAR AND OF NEAR ARE STILL THERE
MAKE IT LAST MAKE IT LAST MAKE IT LAST

CLOCKS CAN`T TURN BACK TODAY OR ANY
CROSSROADS OF LIFE BEHIND
MEMORIES OF FOLK YOU KNEW MOST NOW GONE
BUT SOME NOW ALIVE IN YOUR MIND

CLOCKS CAN`T TURN BACK TODAY OR ANY
CROSSROADS OF LIFE BEHIND
MEMORIES OF FOLK YOU KNEW MOST NOW GONE
BUT SOME NOW ALIVE IN YOUR MIND

MAKE IT LAST, MAKE IT LAST, .....MAKE IT ....LAST
