This is definitely inspired by Bruce Springsteen! The song describes a relationship and how the guy ended up travelling down Loneliness Road.
Thanks for the feedback Brent, much appreciated.
I was with my ex for ‘nearly 20 years’ and that was where that term came from, but I do appreciate and understand your comments about it.

20 years of hurtin’ weigh so heavy on me
I carry it on my shoulders, until I get where I have to be
I still think about us, though my heart can’t stand the pain
So I just keep on walkin’ through the thunder and the rain
Chorus
And I still carry your picture, and a lock of your hair
But I can’t think about moving on, I guess that I just don’t dare
They’re calling me a vagrant, with no fixed abode
As I carry the weight, of losing you, down loneliness road
Now they tell me to forget you, to put you in the past
Well I really thought that the band of gold, meant that it all would last
But I didn’t see him coming, with his eyes set on your charms
And now you’re living your life, in somebody else’s arms
Chorus
And I still carry your picture, and a lock of your hair
But I can’t think about moving on, I guess that I just don’t dare
They’re calling me a vagrant, with no fixed abode
As I carry the weight, of losing you, down loneliness road
SOLO
Chorus
And I still carry your picture, and a lock of your hair
But I can’t think about moving on, I guess that I just don’t dare
They’re calling me a vagrant, with no fixed abode
As I carry the weight, of losing you, down loneliness road

Hey, Ross! The Boss is never a bad place to go for inspiration! (And I can hear it coming through in your song. Not a bad thing, either.)
Question. Did your marriage end 20 years ago? If that’s what you mean by “20 years of hurting” it may hurt your chances of getting an outside artist to cut the song (if that’s your goal). Figure the singer was, say, 20 when they got married, add a few years of marriage, then “20 years of hurting.” That makes the singer AT LEAST 45.
Now, that’s not old. But it’s old for most singers to ADMIT to being. May not be as much of a concern with a Springsteen-type artist, but I want you to be aware of it.
Of course, if that’s not what you mean by “20 years of hurting,” then I don’t know what it means and I’m confused… which isn’t good either.
I dig the vibe, though. There’s some good stuff here. Hope that helps!
