It’s not your first cut that makes you a songwriting pro. How you think, write, and do business is what makes you a songwriting pro. Cuts are just the result.
The result of thinking like a pro is that you become an INTERNAL pro. You may not have the trappings of a songwriting pro (yet). You might not have the publishing deal, the cuts, or the reputation yet, but you are a pro in your thinking and in your work ethic.
This is hugely important, because you will never become an EXTERNAL pro (with the publishing deal, cuts, etc.) if you aren’t already an INTERNAL pro. You become an external pro when your circumstances finally catch up with what you already are in your mind and in your heart.
In order to help you think like a songwriting pro, here are some resources. (I assume you’ve already completed STEP ONE. If so, congratulations, you’re feeding your mind good input which will help you think like a pro. If you haven’t completed STEP ONE yet, go back there right now.)

“Cut/able: Lessons In Market-Smart Songwriting” will help you think about commercial songwriting the way a pro does. You will learn to decipher what the music industry (and the fans) want and how to apply those qualities to YOUR songs.
