Wordplay Thursday #121

Wordplay Thursday

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.

“Christmas lights lit up our neighborhood like _____.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“Christmas lights lit up our neighborhood like a snow-covered Vegas strip.”

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

And thanks to Ken Matthiesen, Dan Retz, Terry, Barney Coulter, Nick S, Deborah, Kim Kondrashoff, Nila, Joe Slyzelia, Allen Paulson, Heidi Lynn Carter, Dionne Kumpe, Erin Murphy Dunn, Daveevmusic, Will Curtis, Scott Fischer and everyone else who played along here or on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #120 (read it here)! Great job!

Wordplay Thursday is a great creative kickstart.  If you want to focus your creativity to write commercial songs, check out my upcoming C4 Experience.  “Creative” and “Commercial” are two of the “C’s” in “C4.”  Click here to find out the other two “C’s.” Or click on the image below.

  1. Christmas lights lit up our neighborhood like…
    A McDonald’s parking lot
    An airport landing strip
    Constellations of reindeer
A holiday party scene straight from Pinterest
    A shopping mall
    A drive-thru lights display
A Styx laser light show at the planetarium
Daytime in hues of red, blue and green

  2. … like an invasion of fireflies on a warm summer night.

… like a 4th of July fireworks display.

… like it was the last Christmas ever.

… like there was a contest for a million dollar prize.

… like the lasar light show at a Pink Floyd concert.

  3. Christmas lights lit up our neighborhood like
    42nd street
    times square
    4th of July fireworks
the shiny whites of a drunken man’s eyeballs

  4. Christmas lights lit up our neighborhood like__________.
    1) the LIFE–did not destroy, but–fulfilled the prophecy.
    2) homeowners’ LADWP bills skyrocket.

    4) God’s rainbow–the real rainbow–shone HIS covenant.
    5) our LORD exampled HIS LOVE for us all.

  5. Christmas lights lit up our neighborhood like——.

    – a galaxy, far, far away…
    – an explosion at a firecracker factory…
    – stars in a new bride’s eyes…
    – the sunrise on a beach in Cabo
    – an early moring campfire…

    … a child’s face on Christmas morning

  8. like a baby’s beautiful smile getting bigger by the minute… as she squealed with joy at the antics of a very playful puppy.

like the most breath taking rainbow one could ever see…that would stop any Scrooge in his tracks & have him transfixed in it’s wonderment.

like a galaxy of stars radiating a new found sense of hope & joy…even the most hard hearted couldn’t deny…no matter how hard they tried…
