Wordplay Thursday #105

Wordplay Thursday

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.

“Grandma’s as frail as _____.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“Grandma’s as frail as butterfly wings.”

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

And thanks to Barney Coulter, Mark Westendorf, Ken Matthiessen, Don Nelson, Ethan Fogus, Debbie Convoy, Jillian Silcox, Jim, Greg Halvorson, Martin Vipond, Buddy Lewis, Joe Slyzelia and everyone else for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #104 (read it here)! Great job!

Wordplay Thursday is a great way to the get the creative juices flowing and get some songs started. But what about finishing songs? Sometimes that can be more difficult. That’s why I’ve written “Finish Your Song! 20 Ways To Overcome Creative Roadblocks.” Click here to find out how to finish more songs faster and better. Or click on the image below. Thanks!

God Bless,

  1. “Grandma’s as frail as _____.”
    – a soap bubble
    – a freshly converted soul
    – a quail egg
    – a newborn
    – a freshly bloomed crepe myrtle pedal

It’s much easier to come up with tough as __ stuff. This is a nice prompt to make me think.

-a July spot shower on a Las Vegas sidewalk
    -a beer induced marriage proposal

  4. Grandma’s as frail as…

    …a one-legged cat in a dog fight.
    …peace in the Middle East.
…a butterfly wing on the grill of a Chevy.
…a Sunday morning Christian when the trials of Monday morning come around.
…the floorboards of that rusty old blue Ford that she only drives to Sunday service now.

    1. I just wrote a song about a reference to the middle East. you so right about how frail that situation is! Plus, I went to church this morning, Sunday, 08-16-15, and yets, tomorrow morning, as is every Monday, and Tues, and Wed, but usually not Thursdays..hmm..??Anyway, Mondays are scary for me. Will you please pray for me, that Arleen and Kenny and Margaret and JB let me be..?? : /

    1. Do you mean H.H. now, as an old, beat up entertainer..or a few years back, the night after being thrown across the ring? Lol.

Grandma’s as frail as her old rocking chair.
Grandma’s as frail as her soft, quaky voice (breath?)

  9. I don’t remember reading this one but I bought a new semi compact bible for travel and fitting some 1850 pages in about a 2″ thick book those almost see through pages feel pretty frail!

“Grandmas’ sad frail as the paper on which My Bible was printed”

Lagniappe for me is that I bought a reading Bible, not a study Bible, The Message – Remix to be precise, and it’s leather patch work bound, much like them Quilts Maw Maw used to make for all the church bazaars and raffles!

God Bless Frail Grandmas that instilled good salt of the earth values in their grandkids! I’m always grateful to God that I had an awesome Maw Maw!
